Rainforest Harvest Mojito Recipe

Monday night, the Red Rooster hosted the annual Bid Against Hunger Gastronome Dinner for the good people at City Harvest. An organization that exists to end hunger in communities throughout New York City. They do this through food rescue and distribution, education, and other practical, innovative solutions.

Early in the evening Executive Director, Jilly Stevens addressed the audience and presented some interesting hunger statistics about this great city I call home. I was humbled and inspired to visit their site online (www.cityharvest.org) where I pulled the following statistics:

*1.5 million New Yorkers currently live in poverty, struggling to afford basic necessities such as rent and medical care and put food on their tables.
*City Harvest helps feed over 300,000 people each week.
* They rescue nearly 77,000 pounds of food each day.
*They regularly give food to nearly 600 community programs.
*It costs City Harvest 23 cents to rescue a pound of food.

As a group they work tirelessly and a good deed deserves a good cocktail! Our team at the Rooster wanted to give them something special during their meal, so I recruited the help of my colleagues Vivian and Lon to help me create a green tea Mojito. We named it, Rainforest Harvest Mojito.

    3/4 oz Simple Syrup

    1/2 oz Lime Juice

    1/3 oz Sugar in the Raw

    1 1/2 oz White Rum

    3 oz Green Tea

    5-6 Sage leaves

    2 wedges of limes
