Recap: Streetbird Opening Party Featuring Qkr! With MasterPass

I had an awesome time at the Streetbird opening party last night! It was really amazing to have all my friends come out and see what I've been working so hard to put together. And of course, there was lots of delicious chicken. Marcus Samuelsson at the Streetbird Launch Party

Aside from celebrating the official opening of Streetbird Rotisserie, we were also helping MasterCard announce a brand new app that lets you order takeout and pay right from your phone: Qkr! with MasterPass. Part of my goal with Streetbird is to make good food accessible, and partnering with Qkr! makes that job even easier. As of last night, Streetbird is the first restaurant in the world to start using the app.

Thanks so much to everyone who made the night a huge success. If you haven't had a chance to try Streetbird yet, I hope to see you in there soon, and don't forget to download Qkr! here.

Recap: The Taste Finale Viewing Party

I had a great time last night at The Taste Finale Viewing Party at Ginny’s Supper Club. I couldn’t be prouder of Team Marcus for bringing their passion and determination to the competition and taking home the win. IMG_2125.JPG

Last night, I got to cook for the party with Gabe and Tristan from Team Marcus. In keeping with the theme of the night, we prepared a few different “tastes” of our own like Tristen’s Duck Meatball and Citrus-Cured Hamachi. I’m definitely looking forward to having Tristen as a part of the Red Rooster team.

Congratulations to Gabe, and all the other chef-testants – it was an incredible season.

Harlem Helps: $50,000 to Survivors of the East Harlem Collapse

(Photo by Ron Walker) On Wednesday night, the Harlem community and beyond joined together to raise up our neighbors who had suffered the terrible explosion at E 116th and Park Ave. weeks ago. Through ticket sales, raffles, and auctions, we were able to raise over $50,000 to support the efforts of the American Red Cross of Greater New York in aiding the survivors. And those who could not give money gave their time, effort, and goodwill, all of which made the benefit a truly a night to remember.

People came from all over to help. The cast of Chicago, the Rakiem Walker Project, the National Jazz Museum of Harlem All-Stars, and Jazzmeia Horn treated us to amazing performances. Karl Franz of 67 Orange and Red Rooster's own David Powell mixed fantastic drinks behind the bar, and guests didn't go home hungry with food from Red Rooster, Barbuto, Ricardo's Steak House, Hot Bread Kitchen, and ice cream from Luca & Bosco.

The ever-gracious Melba Wilson welcomed all as the emcee of the event, and a special thanks goes out to Chefs Amanda Freitag, Aaron Sanchez, and Jonathan Waxman, who co-hosted the event with me.

If anyone ever wonders what Harlem is, they only need to look at an event like the Harlem Helps Benefit. Thanks to all who came to Ginny's on Wednesday — in a time of need, you made Harlem come alive.
