"I think the greatest fashion faux pas is looking into the mirror and seeing someone else. Relax. Have fun with your clothes!" If you don't know who Iris Apfel is, well, prepare to have your life changed.
The inimitable Ms. Apfel is best known for being a fashion fixture, but she is so much more than that. Daring to the point of excess, she has a style all her own, making her a favorite source of inspiration for designers, photographers and filmmakers. In fact, a 2005 exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art titled Rara Avis (Rare Bird): Iris Apfel was such a hit that it hit the road in a touring version.
A new film from MSG friend Albert Maysles is in production shadowing the 90-year-old style maven as she discusses her life and love of fashion, painting a portrait of a woman who knows what she likes and goes after it with little to no regard for how trendy or "de mode" it is. Her verve and tenacity for all things design definitely come across the screen; this movie will be a treat, that's for sure.
