What Are Superfoods? A List of the Ultimate Good-For-You Foods

Ever heard of the expression, "superfoods"? Superfoods, in its most basic definition, are unprocessed foods that encourage ones healthy lifestyle. It's as though they're the new tricks of the trade in losing weight, living a longer healthier life, and fighting off the many diseases that consume today's world. Superfoods are the new craze and they are certainly taking the world by storm. If your one who continually would like to devour a whole bunch of nutrients in one sitting superfoods are certainly the way to go.

So if you've ever wanted to banish all ideas of poor heart conditions or cancer and live a full and healthy life, it's time for you to jump on the bandwagon of devouring super foods. Take a look at this list of a few selected superfoods to really get the health kick party started. After eating these superfoods on a regular basis you will have a new hop in your step and will be ready to take on anything that comes your way, heck you may even be able to climb from building to building to save the world like Superman.

Blueberries: Blueberries are one of the juiciest superfoods out there. They're not only a perfect quick snack in the summer, but contain vitamins such as C, K an B6 and are loaded with fiber. This pumped up snack decreases the risk of cancer, dementia and aids in protecting you from UV-B rays.

Quinoa: Quinoa is one of those seeds that are really making a name for themselves. First and foremost quinoa is considered a super food as it is a complete protein, the best you can find, is loaded with fiber, magnesium, copper and manganese and is easily digestible which increases the intake of nutrients you're looking for in any super food.

Lentils: Lentils are a type of superfood that provide you with a whole lot of punch in any one bite. These nutty little legumes offer up soluble fibers to stabilize blood sugar levels, aid in lowering body cholesterol, are rich in dietary fibers, iron and magnesium. So if you're wondering how to stay healthy this year, pick up a bag or two of lentils to help kick start your year off right.

Broccoli: We all know how much we used to hate eating broccoli as a kid, but if only we knew the benefits of eating such a food we would have listened to our parents. Broccoli packs a whole lot of punch in just a few bites. This green, tree-like vegetable is high in potassium, fiber, vitamin C and I3C, which promote 'good' hormones.

Sweet Potatoes: Finally something sweet added to the list! Sweet potatoes are the perfect super food to devour anytime of the year as they are packed with vitamins A & C, calcium, potassium and are low in sodium. So the next time you order that double-baked potato, think again and ask for a healthier, heartier menu item such as this sweet treat.

Beans: We all know beans are good for us, we just never seem to want to go through the long dreaded process of actually making them from bag to plate. But little do you know that beans pack a whole lot of goodness inside of them that the next time you head out to the Farmers Market, you'll be going directly to the dry bean stand. With more proteins than most vegetables, high amount of fiber, calcium, iron, folate, magnesium and potassium these delectable treats are the easiest way to start that health kick today.
