The Summer in Food

I love the summer in NYC! Who doesn't? It's a great time for barbeques, picnics, food festivals, and other outdoor activities. The summer is also an excellent time to get together with friends and build memories. One of my greatest memories from the summer is the Scandinavian tradition of making Aquavit and eating crayfish with friends and family. We made our own Aquavit at Red Rooster last week and will be featuring it in an original cocktail by our mixologist Moses in about 3 weeks. Making your own Aquavit is simple and we've included a step-by-step recipe that you can do at home.

To keep in line with the summer, we're going to feature more great summer recipes throughout the week and month for easy entertaining tips and ways to spruce up your picnic menus. Today, we'll feature a refreshing White Sangria cocktail recipe that's perfect for the summer.

I encourage everyone to get out of the house this season and explore their surroundings and community. We're well underway in Harlem Week (or month, some would say) and there are many events going on throughout this area. Make sure to read our daily feature of a historic Harlem site and feel free to stop by the Red Rooster to borrow one of our Rooster Bikes to take a ride through the neighborhood.

Keep a look out for our summer food news stories coming up and even my suggested menu for President Obama's birthday dinner!

Even with all the summer excitement going on in our area, let's still keep in mind those who are enduring hardship in East Africa due to drought and famine. While we are enjoying our warm weather, that same warm weather is reaping havoc in another part of the world. Happy Tuesday everyone!
