Get Fit For Summer!
If you've made a batch of kombucha, a delicious homemade alternative to soda, but what about making a sugar-free juice alternative? Juice is a great source of nutrition but store bought juices can sometimes be too high in the sugar department, which can wreak havoc with plans to get fit for summer. Making your own juice is a healthy way to get tasty juice with none of the added sugars and can be quite simple. Here's how:
1. A steam juicer is the easiest way to go about making your own juice. They are relatively inexpensive and also can be used to steam vegetables or for making a stew. You also have many options of what type of juice to make. The world is your oyster...or fruit! Pick classics like apples or oranges or go the more exotic route with plums, peaches and nectarines.
2. Juice is a great addition or way to diet, so keep it healthy by not adding in any sugar but rather supplement to taste with a sweeter fruit like pears or berries, which will make it healthier and add a wonderful and more complex taste.
3. Once the juice is made it will keep for about a year granted that you keep it in a clean glass container and somewhere cool and dry. Drinking your homemade juice several months later will make it taste that much better!
If you can't get your hands on a steam juicer, making a sugar-free cranberry juice can be just as easy. Just boil a pound of fresh or frozen cranberries until they pop, let them cool then pour through a sieve or cheesecloth and add sweetener to taste. It also makes for a great base for cranberry cocktails!
Do you make homemade juice or drinks? What's your favorite combination?
