Five Refreshing Summer Beers

Whether it's for a holiday weekend, a visit to a beer garden, or just an outdoor barbecue with your family and friends, trying a few refreshing beers is a fun way to enjoy yourself this summer. Happily, there is a wide selection of great summer beers available. Check out these five beers for something new help you stay cool in the hot sun. (Just remember to drink enough water to stay hydrated!)

Anchor Summer - From April to November, San Francisco's Anchor Brewery produces the Anchor Summer beer, a malt beer with 50% malted wheat, making it an ideal light and refreshing warm weather beer that still has a traditional wheat beer flavor. Having brewed this flavor since 1984, the Anchor Brewery considers the Anchor Summer a "modern American wheat beer."

Oskar Blues' Dale's Pale Ale - A Colorado beer that has won numerous awards, including the gold medal at the 2010 World Beer Championships and being named the top U.S. Pale Ale by the New York Times, Dale's Pale Ale was America's first hand-canned craft beer. As a pale ale, it's a bit more hoppy than some other beers, but it also has a citrusy kick that balances out the flavor for a very refreshing drink.

Pyramid Apricot Ale - If you're looking for a fruity taste of summer, try the Apricot Ale from Pyramid Breweries. Equal parts barley and malted wheat create the apricot flavored ale that tastes of the fruit without being overpowering. It's available year round, but would be especially nice on a hot summer day.

Ommegang Hennepin - Bringing authentic Belgian-style brewing to the United States, the Ommegang Brewery of Cooperstown, NY produces a variety of Belgian beers, including the popular and refreshing Hennepin. This ale has a crisp mix of spicy gingersnap and citrusy hops that pair it well with many different foods including roasted chicken, fresh-water fish, shellfish, and spicy Asian cuisine.

Bitburger Premium Pils - If you're looking for something less fruity in your summer beer, check out the Bitburger Premium Pils, Germany's number one draught beer. It's a flavorful and bitter pilsner that will help you cool off in the hot sun and cut the heat of spicy foods.
