Did you know that food insecurity is rampant in the United States? In this land of plenty, it's so sad to see many adults and children without adequate nutrition. Here are five facts about hunger in the US and one great way to help this weekend through Feeding America's Stamp Out Hunger drive on Saturday, May 14th.Â

* 1 in 6 Americans is hungry today. * In 2009 there were over 43.6 million Americans living in poverty. * In 2009, 17.2 million children lived in food insecure households. * 34% of all client households served by Feeding America have had to choose between paying for food and paying for medicine or medical care. * 8% of Feeding America's clients were seniors over age 65, 7.5% of households with seniors were food insecure
These statistics only show a small part of the problem. Thankfully, there's a way you can help today! Feeding America is holding its annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive. It's really easy to help and you can participate without even leaving your house.
All you have to do is place your non-perishable food products in a bag. Leave the bag at your mailbox on Saturday, May 14th. Your letter carrier will pick up and deliver the food to local food banks or pantries.
