Congratulations to my good friend, Floyd Cardoz, who won Season 3 of Top Chef Masters last night! Floyd won $110,000 total for his charity, the Young Scientist Cancer Research Fund at Mount Sinai Medical school, in honor of his dad, who passed away from cancer. His dad also served as the inspiration for the dish that really impressed the judges in the final episode - upma, a simple but delicious breakfast recipe from Floyd's native India.
I'm going to miss Floyd's amazing food at Tabla, which closed last year, but he's opening up a new restaurant in New York later in the year called the North End Grill. I'm really looking forward to enjoying Chef Floyd's food again.
You can listen to highlights of me interviewing Floyd on my radio show, "At the Red Rooster with Marcus Samuelsson" here. Congrats again, Floyd, on your win!
