African Roots Come to Fashion

If you've gotten the chance to have one of Red Rooster's signature teas or cappuccinos, you probably would've noticed that your hot beverage of choice not only comes to your liking but also comes with a smile; all thanks to one of our best- IJ! When she's not acting as one of Red Rooster Harlem's top baristas, Ijenela Ifil, believe it or not, designs and hand-makes her own line of African clothing. Although, IJ is from Guyana, she has a strong connection with her African roots and, besides food, one of the ways she displays it is with her clothing. She makes everything from traditional African dresses, to knitted scarves, hats, and other accessories.

What was once just a hobby, IJ has now turned her clothing making into a true craft and has been able to sell a few of her creations. Even more exciting, Ijenela was just asked to participate in her first fashion show. Taking place this Saturday in Harlem, "Fashion Sizzle" will feature designs from up and coming fashion designers, including Rooster's very own Ijenela Ifil! Stop by to show IJ your support and get a glimpse of her line as well as other young Harlem talents. Show starts at 5:30pm this Saturday, April 28th at the R.C. Lawson Building and tickets are just $20. Click here for more info.
