Announcing My Upcoming Red Rooster Cookbook

The Red Rooster Cookbook is available online at AmazonBarnes & Noble and IndieBound.

I’m excited to announce that my upcoming Red Rooster Cookbook: The Story of Food and Hustle in Harlem will be released October 18th. I had such an incredible time compiling these dishes, and now I’m ready to share them with you.

Inside you’ll find deeply personal dishes, woven into the story of our neighborhood and our restaurant. Though food is at the center of Red Rooster, it’s about so much more than that to me. It’s become a key part of our vibrant Harlem community, encouraging new friendships and conversations over thoughtfully prepared food.

This book reflects my journey from Ethiopia to Harlem, influenced by flavors I discovered along the way. From Pork and Plantains to Chinese Steamed Bass and Fiery Noodles to Chicken and Waffles, each recipe is rooted in centuries of traditions and cultures that represent the sticky, sweet, specialness that is the reason I opened my restaurant uptown. These dishes will bring exciting global flavors into your home, and I hope they’ll expand your sense of adventure in the kitchen.

Celebrating Women in Black History at Red Rooster

We are celebrating women chefs in black history with a Black History Month Prix Fixe menu at Red Rooster. We're cooking up Blackened Catfish that is dedicated to Leah Chase with Creole cooked beans and turnip greens, or you can share in the delectable flavors of these Lucky Macaroons with duck liver and aged balsamic vinegar, in honor of Miss Adrienne.  Our Beer Braised Pork Belly is served with Lena's creamed turnips and smoked vinegar jus in celebration of Lena Richardson. All of the dishes are infused with the history of the neighborhood and the strength of the women in our community who have been dishing up delicious eats for decades.

Harlem to Bermuda

What an amazing time we had last weekend at Marcus' Bermuda with Melba (of Melba's Harlem) and my friends - the Nate Lucas All-Stars. The event really came together with jazz from Harlem and delicious food prepared with the soul of Harlem!  From Tandoori Smoked Salmon Deviled Egg, to Fish Chowder Bites, Melba’s Fried Chicken, Dunkley’s Eggnog Waffle, and JH’s Chicken Stew & Dumplings - we had plenty of good eats and great company throughout the night!

Marcus' in Bermuda Officially Opens May 27th!

On May 27th, I'll be opening my new restaurant, Marcus', in Bermuda. Last week, I officially announced that my latest restaurant, Marcus', will open on May 27th in Bermuda. The announcement was made in an exclusive with Travel + Leisure.

Marcus' will focus Caribbean-inspired cuisine. The space is inside the newly renovated Bermuda Fairmont Hamilton Princess, and should be pretty spectacular against the island's natural beauty.  Bermuda is one of my favorite places to visit - I've fallen in love with people and the culture there - so I'm really excited about this project.

To celebrate the opening of Marcus', the Hamilton Princess is offering three special travel packages. All three packages include a two night stay at the Bermuda hotel, a five course meal with beverage pairings at the restaurant, and a signed copy of my latest book, Marcus Off Duty: The Recipes I Cook at Home, plus some other fun perks. You can find out more about these deals here on their website in the Food and Wine section.
