Essential for summer and for keeping cool is a cold glass of iced coffee. There are many health benefits from drinking coffee, You can get your caffeine boost while keeping your body temperature down, which is very important on a sweltering day. It may take longer to make if you start out with hot coffee and wait until it’s cool enough to pour over ice, so why not skip a step and cold-brew your very own perfect cup of iced coffee? Here is how:

Cold-Brewed Iced Coffee Recipe
Makes 2-4 Servings
- Fill a pitcher of coffee and water with a ratio of 1 cup of medium to coarsely ground coffee to 4.5 cups of water.
- Stir the mixture, cover, and place in the refrigerator.
- Leave overnight for 12 hours.
- After it is done steeping, strain the mixture through a coffee filter or fine-mesh sieve (cheesecloth will also work!) and pour over a cup of ice. Doctor with sweetener or milk to taste.
The great thing about cold-brewing your iced coffee is that it will have a lower acidity and higher caffeine content, making it a tastier version of your regular coffee. If you’re still keen on hot java, dilute the concentrate 1:1 with water and heat in the microwave or on the stove-top.
For cafes that cold-brew their own coffee to perfection, try Blue Bottle in Brooklyn, NY Kaffe 1668 in Lower Manhattan, NY or Stumptown in Portland, Oregon.

Question about this recipe, please? One measuring cup of coffee? That seems like a lot – just wondering?! Thanks
Hi Michelle, this makes 2-4 servings, depending on how much coffee you drink a day. Enjoy!
Do you mean add a cup of coffee grinds or brewed coffee? I’m confused!
Hi Kerry,
Thanks for your question. You should use medium to coarsely ground coffee.
