Mulled Cider

3 whole cinnamon sticks

5 whole cloves

5 juniper berries

4 cardamom pods

2 quarts apple cider

1 inch ginger

2 ounces rye

1. Toast the cinnamon sticks, cloves, juniper berries, and cardamom pods in a medium saucepan until fragrant. Then, add the apple cider and ginger, and raise the heat to medium-high until the apple cider boils.

2. Once the cider begins to boil, cover and reduce the heat to low. Simmer for 30 minutes, then add the rye and simmer for another 10 minutes.

3. Serve in mugs, leaving the remaining cider on the stovetop, covered, on low heat.
