One of the first lessons we learn in life, is that food is love. As babies we enter this world completely reliant on our caregiver(s) to provide food for our survival. This typically lends to a unique bonding and nurturing experience. As we grow, many milestones are marked with food – birthdays, holidays, family nights, dates, weddings and even funerals. Hopefully along the way, we experience the unique foods that elicit a sense of euphoria, called aphrodisiacs.
With Valentine’s Day approaching there is one food on everyone’s mind: chocolate! Chocolate is a notable aphrodisiac, rich in phenols which can counter artery clogging plaque and lower blood pressure. Chocolate also helps to release a chemical in the brain that creates a feeling of LOVE. This is a delicious and powerful food, so all you need is a little bit to get you in the mood.

Servings: Makes 30 truffles
1 cup dried blueberries
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1 tsp lavender
Pinch of salt
1/4 cup filtered water(more or less if needed)
2 cups dark chocolate chips
1. Puree blueberries, cocoa powder, lavender and salt in a food processor, stream in water slowly.
2. Move truffle filling to cold storage for at least an hour (can be chilled for up to 24 hours).
3. Roll into teaspoon sized balls and chill in freezer for 5 minutes.
4. Melt the dark chocolate in the top portion of a double boiler. Using two forks to balance the truffles, coat truffle filling with chocolate.
5. Place dipped truffles on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cool on parchment and store in refrigerator.
Truffles will keep best in cold storage for up to 2 weeks.
Play around with the recipe to create different flavors. You can substitute almost any dried fruit. Here are some of my other favorites:
*Champagne Strawberry Truffles: substitute dried strawberries for the blueberries and champagne for the filtered water
*Apricot Ginger Truffles: substitute dried apricots for the blueberries and add some fresh grated ginger or ginger juice to taste
*Cherry Rose Truffles: substitute dried cherries for blueberries and add 2 tsp of Rose Water
