One of my favorite citrus fruits is grapefruit. Its tart, refreshing flavor pairs well with bourbon in a sour-style cocktail. Instead of a sugar-based simple syrup, this cocktail relies on honey for a natural, unrefined sweetener. Save any extra Honey Simple Syrup to sweeten tea or for another cocktail later this weekend.
Calories per serving: 140 per serving
1 cup honey
8 oz Bourbon
4 oz freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, from about 2 large grapefruits
1. Make the honey simple syrup: In a medium saucepan, combine the honey with one cup water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and cook until the honey has dissolved. Set aside and let cool.
2. Combine the Bourbon and grapefruit juice in a shaker with ice and mix. Add the honey simple syrup to taste, reserving any extra for another use. Strain into a highball glass filled with ice and enjoy (Alternately, combine all ingredients in a large pitcher, stir and serve.)
