It wouldn’t be winter without a little aquavit to keep you warm! Here’s one of my favorite recipes for Citrus-Infused Vodka that goes well for sipping or mixed in a cocktail. It’s a perfect way to incorporate some of those seasonal citruses into your cooking.
Servings: 2 quarts
1-in piece ginger, peeled
4 tbsps granulated sugar
2 kaffir lime leaves
1 pink grapefruit
2 qts potato-based vodka
Combine the ginger, sugar and lime leaves with 1/2 cup of water in small saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and let cool.
Cut the limes into 6 wedges and the grapefruit, orange and lemon into thin slices. Place the fruit in a clean 3-quart glass jar. Add the ginger-sugar syrup and vodka. Cover and let sit at room temperature for 1-2 weeks. Strain and discard the solids. Store in bottles.
