Red Rooster Harlem once again had the pleasure of hosting an incredible event, this time for South African Tourism. Last night, the South African Tourism Board inaugurated Red Rooster's newly renovated downstairs space with its first event in their new "Tastemaker Series." The series will be ongoing and feature prominent community guests and speakers that are either from South Africa or had visited there, in hopes to entice more to take a trip to this beautiful country. Yesterday's event at Red Rooster was lively as one can imagine. The South African Tourism banners and staff in traditional South African dress enlightened the space, music from the band filled the room, and guests mingled in between bites of a mix of traditional African dishes and some Red Rooster classics.
Speakers gave a beautiful introduction and invitation to the eclectic and surprising country of South Africa. Guests spoke about the wonders of their South African trips and even Red Rooster Chef Marcus Samuelsson shared a few memories from his many visits to the country. All had one common theme when speaking of a trip to South Africa, that is unlike any experience ever had before and all expectations of what a trip to Africa would be like were thrown out the window. With activities like diving with Great White sharks, touring through a safari in search of the Big 5 dangerous animals, and sampling foods from around the world all in one location, it's no wonder South Africa's tagline is "Leave the ordinary behind."
