Last night actress Natalie Portman was given an Oscar for stunning audiences in her performance of a crazed ballerina in Black Swan. Her tearful acceptance speech gave due credit to the people who have supported her throughout her career, especially her fiance with whom she is expecting a baby. Natalie Portman is known not only for her acting, but also for her proactive diet beliefs. She has been a vegetarian since the age of 8. After reading Jonathan Safran Foer's Eating Animals, Portman confidently took a further step, becoming vegan. Portman published an Op-Ed about this transition the Huffington Post, proclaiming her self as a "vegan activist."
She has even appeared as a guest judge on Bravo's "Top Chef," surprising contestants who were in the kitchen of Tom Coloccio's Vegas steakhouse, Craftsteak, creating a frenzied menu revision to her diet.
These beliefs extend past the kitchen and under the dinner table -- Portman designed a high-end line of vegan shoes in 2008 for Te Casan.
