Want to know how you can help famine-stricken East Africa just by following us on Twitter? Today, August 18th, our sister site, Food Republic, will host its very first live Twitter Chat in efforts to raise awareness and money for the famine in the Horn of Africa. I and other fellow Chefs John Besh, Andrew Zimmern, Aaron Sanchez, Michael Voltaggio, and  Beau MacMillan and the websites Foodspotting and Food+Tech Connect, will engage in a live Twitter chat to discuss what the food community can do to help address and raise awareness about the current famine crisis in East Africa.
The topic of the Twitter chat is: "Food and Social Media: What are our responsibilities?" The discussion is meant to generate ideas and raise awareness and spur social action to help alleviate the crisis. We will also simultaneously hold an online auction of personal chef giveaways from each chef with all proceeds going to UNICEF in its famine relief efforts in Somalia and East Africa. Followers will be able to bid on various items, such as a dinner for four at my restaurant Red Rooster or a signed copy of Travel Channel's game "Bizarre" from Andrew Zimmern and a copy of his latest book.
So be sure to stay tuned today at 2pm for our live Twitter Chat.
To follow or participate in the chat, use the hashtag #FRchat which will create a thread people can follow. I look forward to hearing what you have to add to this great conversation!
