Even though chocolate makes for sumptuous desserts, it has great health benefits, too. Susan Brady reports in "Chocolate Touted As the New Superfood" that chocolate can satisfy both your sweet tooth and your nutritional needs. A new study by the Hershey Company found that chocolate contains high levels of antioxidants and flavonols, compounds that help neutralize harmful free radicals. Brady also discusses a German study showing that eating one piece of chocolate every day lowers heart attack risk, and a Canadian study indicating that chocolate consumption decreases the risk of death following stroke.
Chocolate's status as a "superfood" seems more and more established with every passing study. Whether or not it'll make you live longer, chocolate is a delicious treat for snacking or formal desserts.
