Spotting counterfeit wine might seem difficult if you're not an expert, but it's actually simple. Counterfeit alcohol is a serious issue, especially in the United Kingdom, where more than a quarter of stores sell fake product. In fact, analysts speculate that gangs produce massive amounts of counterfeit wine in the UK, mostly rebottling cheaper alcohol. In this video, Trading Standards officer Linda Plested explains how to spot counterfeits. Most obviously, wines that have misspelled labels are probably counterfeits. Plested discovers a bottle with "Australia" and "responsibly" blatantly misspelled.
Fortunately, catching counterfeiters remains simple when they can't spell simple words. Watch the video here.
