It's hard to believe that ten years have already passed since the tragedies that struck our nation on the day of September 11, 2001. Many of us remember exactly where we were and what we were doing the moment we found out of the attacks. For others, it's hard to forget the details since they might have lost those near and dear to them. For some like Chef Michael Lomonaco, 79 loved ones were lost. As Executive Chef of the restaurant Windows on the World, once located in the World Trade Center, Chef Lomonaco was thankfully safe that tragic day but unfortunately survived only to find out the majority of his staff at the restaurant did not. Following September 11th, Lomonaco and some of his staff, formed a nonprofit with the help of Community Service Society, Windows of Hope, to provide aid to the families who lost loved ones. His service and attention to the families of lost friends continues to serve as a testament to the undying American spirit that cannot and will not be quenched, not matter what tragedy comes our way.
As we commemorate the 10-year anniversary of September 11th, let us never forget those who perished and even those who survived the tragedy, as they are a constant reminder that a country united will never fall. Â Our hearts go out to not only those affected by September 11th, but to the entire nation- may the spirit of America always prevail!
